Long Flight

7 hours plus to go (local time in Beijing is 4:38pm) on the flight to Beijing and I promised to write.  We are currently over Canada, approaching the North Slope of Alaska.

I want to note that I chose to call this Blog, Deriving Danny  for several reasons, among others the play on words that it implies; that there was a "calculation" which we made in the decision to adopt.  That there was a lot of effort that went into the process.  That a lot of mental hand wringing went into all of the decisions surrounding the choice to adopt Danny.

I am writing this for a multitude of reasons.  I want to provide Danny with a record of what our trip to "Derive" him was like.  I want him to know that we really are looking forward to meeting him and integrating him into our family.  I want him when he reads this, in the future, to really understand and feel confident in the knowledge that he is wanted and that even now when we haven't finalized the adoption yet that we feel that he is a FULL member of the family and will NEVER be treated any differently than either Jeremy or Maddy.

It is now 10:24am in DC but 10:24pm where we are at.  Bejing is still 624 miles and 1.5 hours away.  I have been up and down the aisles of the plane numerous times.  I have slept fitfully when I could not resist the urge anymore.  I am beginning to think that the return flight with Danny is going to be a significant issue.  This is one REALLY long flight.  REALLY.

In the course of this flight I have seen two sunsets and a sunrise.  Really gorgeous sun events.  Which really makes me want to pun:  We are all engaged on a son event at this point.  :-D
